Jeddah city
Jeddah, often called the "Bride of the Red Sea," is a city where the scent of sea salt meets the incense of ancient trade routes. It serves as the primary gateway to the holy city of Makkah and is arguably Saudi Arabia’s most cosmopolitan and artistically inclined hub.
As of early 2026, Jeddah is in the midst of a massive transformation, balancing its UNESCO-listed history with record-breaking skyscrapers.
🏛️ The Heart of the City: Al-Balad
The historic district, Al-Balad, is a maze of narrow alleys and 19th-century "tower houses" built from Red Sea coral.
- UNESCO Heritage: It’s famous for its Rawasheen (intricately carved wooden balconies) that once allowed women to look out while maintaining privacy and catching the sea breeze.
- Ramadan Spirit: In March 2026, Al-Balad is particularly vibrant, hosting millions of visitors for Ramadan festivals. The smell of traditional Kibdah (liver) and Sobia (a traditional drink) fills the air as locals gather in the squares after sunset.
🌊 Life on the Water
The city is defined by its relationship with the Red Sea.
- The Corniche: A 30km coastal resort area with recreation areas, pavilions, and large-scale civic sculptures by world-renowned artists like Henry Moore and Joan Miró.
- King Fahd’s Fountain: Visible from almost anywhere along the coast, it’s the tallest fountain in the world, shooting water over 300 meters into the sky.
- Diving & Resorts: North of the city lies Obhur, the go-to spot for yachting and world-class scuba diving in the crystal-clear Red Sea reefs.
🏗️ The Future: Jeddah 2026 and Beyond
Jeddah is currently a forest of cranes as it executes the Saudi Vision 2030 projects:
- Jeddah Tower: Construction has resumed at full tilt. By March 2026, the tower has surpassed the 94th floor and is on its way to becoming the world's tallest building (over 1,000 meters).
- Jeddah Central Project: This $20 billion development is transforming the city's waterfront. The first phase, including a world-class Opera House and a futuristic Sports Stadium, is nearing its 2027 completion.
- Global Events: This year, Jeddah is a focal point for global diplomacy and sport, hosting the World Economic Forum meeting in April and the annual Formula 1 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix.
